Fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumours (growths) in the uterus (womb).

 

Symptoms / Signs may include:

 

  • No symptoms if fibroids are few and/or small

  • Heavy periods 

  • Aching/ discomfort in lower abdomen/pelvis

  • Back pain

  • Frequent urination

  • Constipation

Treatment of symptomatic fibroids: hysterectomy is a commonly needed – an operation to remove the uterus (womb) with the fibroids

 

When fertility is desired myomectomy is an option – removing only the fibroids from the uterus (womb)
